To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to you about teaching English as a Second Language.  What more of an exciting opportunity than to do this abroad?  Want to experience a new culture?  How about beautiful and exciting Korea!  This is where Appletree Recruiting comes in.  From the initial stages of contact, throughout the entire application process, and after landing in The Land of the Morning Calm, the friendly and helpful staff will help place you in an excellent opportunity.

Teaching English abroad is a wonderful venture.  It is a great opportunity in many ways.  Just think of leaving the comfort of your known environment, of meeting new people, and of the challenges of everyday life in a language other than your native tongue.  I was shocked at how Westernized the country feels.  It is a venture that requires dedication, drive and a thirst to instill knowledge into young minds.  It may be encouraging to know that Korea has a very similar feel to a Western nation.  If this undertaking sounds like something you desire, then I encourage you to apply.

The recruitment process involves multiple steps and processes.  It requires both being proactive and patient, as with dealing with multiple government agencies.  An attention to detail is highly recommended, as well as strong people skills.  Competencies in dealing with children are a must.  After I arrived, I found out how invigorating and enjoyable it is to teach children.  Nonetheless learning is a two-way street:  as much as you teach the students, they teach you.  There is so much to learn about the students and their culture; such as their language, sports, interests and hobbies.

Moreover teaching in Korea is a worthwhile venture.  One gains valuable work experience, a good salary, housing benefit and a health insurance allowance.  The private academy, called a hagwon, is where most foreign teachers instruct.  This type of institution breeds a healthy learning environment in which native Korean teachers instruct alongside native English-speaking teachers.  The training and helpfulness are both close and persistent.  I am confident that most days you will leave work with a smile.

If there are any questions or concerns about the process, please do not hesitate to see this website.  I am from the United States and have not spent much time abroad, and never have been to Asia.  I was able to contact the current foreign teacher in my position before I arrived.  This was very helpful in helping me to realize what my expectations are.  This endeavor is what I consider to be an once-in-a-lifetime experience, and so far for it is proving so.  I encourage you to check out Appletree Recruiting, and available resources on  Korea such as The World Factbook and local cultural associations in your area.

Best of luck, and I promise that it will make you smile!
